News from Electronica 2024

At the recently concluded Electronica 2024 in Munich, a number of exciting new products from the measurement technology sector were presented. The companies we represent were not left out and took advantage of the event to introduce new instruments. Below you will find an overview of the most interesting ones:

3-channel bi-directional DC power supplies EA-PSB 20000

The electrification of the world is rapidly advancing, with industry and the public sector  transitioning from fossil fuels to electrical energy, ideally sourced from renewables. Various requirements come together here: more power, more throughput, more flexibility. As a new generation 3-channel bidirectional power supply the EA-PSB 20000 Triple allows synchronized testing to meet these requirements. It comes as a 3U and 4U version with a voltage range of up to 3 x 920 V and current up to 3 x 340 A.

With three independent channels, customers can conduct parallel testing on different components or subsystems, such as motors, inverters, and on-board chargers, within the same test setup. This reduces the time needed to validate each component individually. The occupation of rack space is reduced by more than 50% when using triple devices instead of single output devices.

Key features:

  • Very high efficiency of over 96% in regenerative with energy recovery back to the grid
  • Voltages from 0 – 60 V up to 0 – 920 V
  • High performance with up to 10 kW per channel
  • Currents from 0 – 40 A up to 0 – 340 A per channel
  • 3 Independent, fully isolated and bidirectional DC output/input stages, with autoranging
  • 3 Built-in high speed control interfaces with 1 ms communication speed

Aim-TTi FX100 laboratory DC power supplies

The new FX100DP/TP dual and triple channel power supplies use PowerFlex technology, which allows these new supplies to operate over a voltage range of 0 - 42V and current range of 0 - 6A at 105W per channel. Operation is easy thanks to a large colour touch screen display that clearly shows all device operating data.

Key features:

  • 2 or 3 outputs with up to 105W/channel
  • Low output noise and ripple
  • High setting resolution of 1mV/1mA
  • Touchscreen graphic display with simultaneous display of settings and measured values
  • Individual output on/off control
  • Free Test Bridge control software
  • Compact size and weight of only 4 kg

Function/arbitrary generators GW Instek AFG-4000

GW Instek introduced in Munich a brand new series of arbitrary waveform generators with frequency range up to 100 MHz. Current introduction includes 5 dual channel models with frequency range 25, 35, 60, 80 and 100 MHz. 3 more models are expected to be introduced during 2025 with output frequency up to 250 MHz. All has built-in standard waveforms such as sine, square, triangle, pulse and noise. The vertical resolution of 25 MHz model is 14 bits, for 35 MHz and higher frequency models the vertical resolution is 16 bits. Sampling rate of 125 MSa/s is available for 25 MHz model, the models with higher frequencies has sample rate of 500 MSa/s. Memory length is 10 Mpoints/channel.

25 GHz version of the PicoScope 9400A sampling oscilloscope

The new PicoScope 9404A-25 SXRTO ((Sampler-Extended Real-Time Oscilloscope) pushes the maximum frequency range of this series of sampling oscilloscopes to 25 GHz. The oscilloscope combines the advantages of real-time and equivalent-time sampling. With a real-time sampling rate of 500 MS/s, the oscilloscope is capable of capturing lower frequency random signals or one-time events. For higher rate repetitive signals, it utilizes a random equivalent time sampling mode to achieve an effective sampling rate of up to 5 TS/s. An optional clock recovery circuit can output a recovered clock and data up to 11,3 Gb/s.

The PicoSample 4 software allows easy setup of the instrument and visualization of the measured signals. It provides a wide range of tools for signal integrity measurements, including pulse and timing measurements, jitter analysis, RZ and NRZ eye diagrams, and communication mask tests according to standards such as PCIe, Gb Ethernet, Serial ATA, and more. With 175 ready-made masks, compliance testing for buses such as Ethernet, USB or PCI Express can be easily performed. At the same time, new masks for any other standard can be created in minutes.
